Tanzania lies within the African Great Lakes region, turning it into a land with some unique ecosystems and thriving wildlife. With highlands and sweeping plains, this country also boasts of hosting Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. Open grasslands, acacia woodlands and the extreme habitats of the Ngorongoro crater await you. Tanzania is also home to some of the largest herds of African elephants. Traversing through Tanzania’s best protected areas is one of the most spectacular safari experiences one can embark upon. From the rare rhinos in Ngorongoro, to the wildebeest migration in in the Serengeti plains, to the Big Five viewing, as a wildlife and nature enthusiast, this trip is definitely one you don’t want to miss.
DAY BY DAY
Kilimanjaro airport to Arusha
We will pick you up from Kilimanjaro airport and escort you to your accoommodation in Arusha, where you can rest and relax for the day and be ready for the next day’s safari.
Lake Manyara National Park
We will depart for Lake Manyara National Park post early breakfast. Nesttled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara contains a diverse range of habitats and topographical features ranging from the rift wall, ground water forest, acacia woodlands and open grasslands to the shores of Lake Manyara and the lake itself. Lunch will be packed and served in the bush. The park provides sanctuary to a variety of animals such as the gazelle, impala, buffalo, wildebeest, hyena, baboon, giraffe, hippo and the famous tree-climbing lions that are unique to the Lake, along with over 350 bird species.
Serengeti National Park
Post an early breakfast, we will drive to Serengeti via Ngorongoro Conserrvation Area. Picnic lunch will be served on the way. The world famous Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s oldest park and one of the world’s last great wildlife refuges. The name comes from the Masai word Siringet, meaning ‘endless plains’. We will be viewing wildlife throughout the drive to our lodge and arrive at our tented accommodation in the evening.
Serengeti National Park
If you rise early you can take a morning game drive through the park to see the nocturnal predators returning from their nightly hunt and the active animals waking up in the early morning light. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds, you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes, birds and other species.
We will enjoy morning and afternoon game viewing drives in the vast Serengeti plains. In the early morning and evening light, the Serengeti landscape is stunningly beautiful. This ecosystem supports the greatest remaining concentration of wildlife in Africa, including more than three million large mammals. The park is one that can never disappoint. One is spoilt by the variety of bird and wildlife species here. Depending on wildlife movement, we can have hot lunch at the camp or enjoy picnic lunch in the bush.
Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast we will drive south towards Ngorongoro, with scenic viewss en-route. Upon arrival, we will descend some 610 meters into the crater, which is home to an abundance of wildlife and a photogenic paradise, for a full day of game viewing with picnic lunch at a private scenic. Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact caldera in the world is home to an abundance of wildlife permanently resident on the crater floor. Prides of lions, herds of Cape buffalo, impala, Thompson gazelles, rhino, golden and black backed jackal, zebra, cheetah, leopard and the spotted hyena freely roam the crater plains. There are few places on earth where such a tremendous diversity of landscapes exist inside a region this size. Apart from its wildlife riches, the crater is also home to hundreds of bird species, refreshing in the small lakes in the crater floor. Our overnight stay will be a few minutes drive from Ngorongoro.
Village Tour near Lake Manyara and drive back to Kilimanjaro Airport
This is day when you will immerse yourself in the local culture with a ttour around the village of Mt wa Mbu. A guide will accompany you for half a day of biking or walking in the mountainous rugged village overlooking Lake Manyara. A picnic lunch will be served. Post lunch, we will drive to the airport in the afternoon for your flight back home.
